Open Access Discussion Group

Globally-dispersed researchers and students can often only get access to important proprietary research, software and resources while they are “members” in an academic community; however, life-long information and technological literacy entails being able to apply library-acquired research skills across work, home, educational, recreational, and civic environments, and this is hampered when access to information is restricted by the ability to pay (for access, information, technology, etc). The ACRL/NY Open Access Discussion Group welcomes all ACRLNY members who would like to explore OPEN ACCESS to information and overcoming barriers to information in a number of ways (including but not limited to economic barriers, technological barriers, legal barriers, information literacy barriers, and cultural/geopolitical barriers to information). We look forward to find/use/sharing research and resources, and promoting an “open“ resource ecology to sustain global-learning environments.
